Verbs ending in -aître with past participles ending in -u

The verbs connaître (to know/meet), reconnaître (to recognize), and paraître (to seem) have past participles that end in -u. To create them, remove the -aître and add -u (connaître → connu). They are conjugated in the passé composé in the following way :

paraître en
J'ai paru
Tu as paru
Il a paru/elle a paru
Nous avons paru
Vous avez paru
Ils ont paru/elles ont paru
connaître en
J'ai connu
Tu as connu
Il a connu/elle a connu
Nous avons connu
