Verbal adjectives

L'adjectif verbal (the verbal adjective) is an adjective which is formed from a verb. It is formed like the present participle (ending in -ant).
Plier → pliant
voler → volant
parler → parlant
courir → courant
Unlike the present participle (ex: les oiseaux sachant parler sont rares birds that know how to speak are rare), the verbal adjective agrees with the noun in gender and number.

un tabouret pliant (masculin) → une chaise pliante (féminin) un tabouret pliant (masculine) → une chaise pliante (feminine)
un tapis volant (masculin singulier) → des tapis volants (masculin pluriel) un tapis volant (masculine singular) → des tapis volants (masculine plural)
une langue courante (féminin singulier) → des langues courantes (féminin pluriel) une langue courante (feminine singular)→ des langues courantes (feminine plural)
