Verbs with the vowel change a ä in the present tense 

Some irregular verbs in the present tense change the vowel for du (you) and er/sie/es (he/she/it) from a to ä.

Er fährt nach Wien. fahren, Präsens

He drives to Vienna.

Sie läuft einen Marathon. laufen, Präsens

She runs a marathon.

Du fängst den Ball. fangen, Präsens

You catch the ball.

The endings are the same as for regular verbs:

schlafen en
ich schlafe
du schläfst
er/sie/es schläft
wir schlafen
ihr schlaft
sie/Sie schlafen
tragen en
ich trage
du trägst
er/sie/es trägt
wir tragen
ihr tragt
sie/Sie tragen
