Note that the "landlord" of a building or flat does not necessarily own it: he or she may simply maintain it.

In British English, the term "landlord" also refers to the person who runs or manages a pub or bar.

My landlady is furious because I haven't paid my rent. She says she will kick me out if I don't pay it in the next week.
