Definition

the landlord (of my flat): the proprietor, the owner (of my flat) noun
Note that the "landlord" of a building or flat does not necessarily own it: he or she may simply maintain it.

In British English, the term "landlord" also refers to the person who runs or manages a pub or bar.
My landlady is furious because I haven't paid my rent. She says she will kick me out if I don't pay it in the next week.
  • "My landlord wants to sell my apartment, and so he has given me 1 month's notice before I am evicted!"
  • "My landlady says this is called a 'house-warming party'."
